Instagram Profile Picture Resizer

Instagram shows your profile picture as a small circle almost everywhere — on your profile, next to comments, and inside the Stories ring. Uploading a square image at 320×320 keeps it sharp at every size, but because the display is circular, anything near the corners gets cut off. This tool resizes your photo and shows you the round crop before you upload anything to Instagram.

How it works

  1. 1

    Add your image

The frame is preset to 320 × 320 pixels with a circular preview.

  2. 2

    Position it

Drag to pan and use the zoom slider. Crop-to-fill trims overflow; fit-with-padding keeps everything visible.

  3. 3

    Check the preview

What you see is exactly what exports — no surprises after upload.

  4. 4

    Download

    Exports as JPG.

Common uses

  • Setting up a new personal or business Instagram account
  • Cropping a headshot so your face sits centered inside the circle
  • Shrinking a brand logo so it stays legible at comment-thumbnail size
  • Matching your profile picture across Instagram, Facebook, and other networks
  • Refreshing a creator profile before a launch or collaboration

Good to know

  • Instagram crops profile pictures to a circle, so keep the subject inside roughly the inner 80% of the square — corners will disappear.
  • 320×320 is the recommended upload size, but the image often displays at 30–40 px in comments, so avoid thin lines and small text.
  • JPEG works well for photos. Instagram flattens transparency anyway, so a transparent PNG gains you nothing here.
  • For faces, zoom in a little tighter than feels natural — small circles favor close crops.

Frequently asked questions

What size should an Instagram profile picture be?

Instagram recommends uploading at 320×320 pixels, which was the figure when we last verified in July 2026. The image displays much smaller in most places, so anything at or above 320×320 will look sharp. Larger uploads are simply scaled down.

Why does my Instagram profile picture look blurry?

The usual causes are starting from an image smaller than 320×320 (which Instagram upscales) or heavy recompression of an already-compressed screenshot. Start from the largest original you have and resize down once, and the result should stay crisp.

Does Instagram crop profile pictures into a circle?

Yes. Even though you upload a square image, Instagram displays it as a circle throughout the app. This tool previews the circular crop so you can reposition before uploading.

Can I upload a PNG as my Instagram profile picture?

Yes, Instagram accepts PNG uploads, but it converts and flattens them on its side, so transparency is lost. For photos, exporting a high-quality JPEG is the simpler choice and looks identical after Instagram processes it.

Is my photo uploaded to your servers?

No. PNGful processes images entirely in your browser — your photo never leaves your device. The only upload that happens is the one you do yourself on Instagram afterward.
