Discord Avatar Resizer
Your Discord avatar appears as a circle beside every message you send, in member lists, and in the server sidebar — often at sizes as small as 20 pixels. Uploading a 512×512 square gives Discord plenty of resolution to scale from, but the circular display means anything in the corners is invisible. This tool resizes to 512×512 and previews the round crop so you can position the subject before uploading.

Common uses
- New users replacing the default Discord avatar
- Server admins matching a personal avatar to server branding
- Artists prepping commissioned avatar art at the right dimensions
- Gamers cropping a character portrait or screenshot into the circle
- Bot developers setting a clean square avatar for their application
Good to know
- Discord displays avatars as circles nearly everywhere — keep the subject centered, since the square's corners are cut off.
- In chat the avatar renders at roughly 40 pixels, so bold, simple images survive far better than detailed ones.
- PNG keeps edges crisp through Discord's resizing; the 512×512 recommended size gives comfortable headroom above the 128×128 minimum.
- Animated avatars are a separate feature: they require a GIF and a Nitro subscription. This tool exports a static PNG.

Frequently asked questions
What size should a Discord avatar be?
512×512 pixels is the recommended upload, and Discord requires at least 128×128 — figures we last verified in July 2026. Discord scales the image down for each display context, so a larger, sharper source always helps.
Why does my Discord avatar look blurry?
Most often the source image was small — near the 128×128 minimum — and Discord's scaling softened it further. Re-uploading a 512×512 version made from a larger original usually fixes it immediately.
Does Discord crop avatars into a circle?
Yes, in chat, member lists, and most of the interface the avatar shows as a circle. You upload a square, but plan the composition for the inscribed circle: nothing important in the corners.
Can I have an animated Discord avatar?
Animated avatars use GIF files and are limited to Nitro subscribers. This preset produces a static PNG, which works for every account type and stays sharp at small sizes.
Is my image uploaded to a server when I resize it here?
No — PNGful runs the resize entirely in your browser, so the image never leaves your device. You download the result and upload it to Discord yourself.
